In one place a Barrett Billet Cllutch w/ Carbon Fiber (no fiber description) kit is not reccommended for synthetic lube, and yet Barrett CF2000 carbon fiber kits have no NOTE:

Is there any problem with Kevlar Friction material (Milwaukee Big Twins) clutch kits and synthetic lube (HDSYN3)???

Good question, had to search a bit for that one. First it's BARNETT not Barret, just so anyone else reading this doesn't get confused. Anyway, as per their website:

"Oils
As far as what oils to use, we generally suggest following the manufacturer's recommendations. Use good quality motorcycle oils and lubricants. The main purpose of oils in a "wet" clutch application (as far as the clutch pack itself is concerned) is to act as a coolant. Oils flowing through the clutch plates help to keep the plates cooler, resulting in smoother clutch action and longer life. Using too heavy viscosity can cause plates to stick when cold.

Synthetic oil, by its nature, has extra lubricity. This can be a real advantage for the engine, but a disadvantage for a wet clutch. Synthetic oils can cause a worn clutch to fail. All Barnett wet clutches are designed to be run with synthetic or petroleum based oils. * Remember, the single best insurance you can have for your clutch and bike is to keep clean, good quality oil in it!"

Their statement, not mine but it does make a lot of sense. Thanks for visiting my site.

Ooooops! Your question was "Kevlar Friction material". Barnett sells Kevlar clutches too wet and dry so I'd have to say the above answer applies. Hope this helps.

TKS.

Have heard through the forum mills that SYN3 or other synthetics are too slipery (implied for new, used or shot clutches, as if the oil we an active component of the operation of the clutch).

As a heat sync, all makes more sense now.

I did purchase a Milwaukee Big Twins set of 9 and 8 (extra set) to replace the old set and the
twin steel plate/spring pack.

i will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again.

That's a forum thread that shows the clutch pack damage (FOD) that caused the wrinkle. 8 rivets let go and 3 spring fingers jammed the clutch pack. Broke an adjuster shoe trying to get the compensator and clutch nuts off. Broke the pressure plate retaining ring groove off trying to get a little more travel. If it's not releasing, you can't get the pressure plate off without removing everything. Filed and honed the FOD damage to the shell and basket, new rings, pressure plate, and we will see how long that lasts.
